What insurance should a valet company carry?

Ask for a certificate of insurance before you sign anything, and read what is on it. The two lines that matter most are general liability, which responds to injuries and property damage around your site, and garage keepers coverage, which responds when a vehicle in the operator's care is damaged or stolen. Many venues also require workers compensation for the crew and auto liability for vehicles the operator drives. Ask to be named as an additional insured, confirm the policy is active on your event date, and check the limits against what your venue or your contract requires. Can I hire valet for just a few hours?

Usually yes, but most operators sell a minimum block rather than an open ended hourly rate, so a short job is often billed at that minimum even when your event runs shorter. The block exists because the crew travels, sets up the stand, and breaks it down whether they park a handful of cars or a full lot. Short bookings work best when arrival and departure both fall inside the window. A brief party where guests trickle out across the evening usually needs more coverage than hosts expect. What does a general valet service cover?

General valet operators work across event, hospitality, and venue jobs instead of specializing in one. A typical booking covers a staffed drop off point at your entrance, attendants who park and retrieve guest vehicles, key control for the length of the shift, signage and cones to mark the lane, and a supervisor running the stand. Most also build the parking plan itself, deciding whether cars go in your lot, a nearby garage, or on the street, and how runners move between them. What is not automatic is worth asking about: overtime coverage, extra staff for a surge, shuttle vehicles, heaters or lighting for an outdoor stand, and traffic control on a busy road.
